Dog Bite Prevention

Mrs. Pam Haney visited our class on Monday to teach us about Dog Bite Prevention.  The kids really enjoyed learning about what to do when we see an unfamiliar dog.  We learned to not approach an unfamiliar dog, we learned to "be still like a tree" if approached by an unfamiliar dog. We also learned not to make direct eye contact with a dog, and to roll into a ball and stay still if we are knocked over by a dog.  The kids got to practice how to ask for permission before petting someone's dog, and learned how to "shake hands" with a dog (letting the dog sniff your hand).

After learning all of this, we went out into the hallway to meet Mrs. Pam's dog, Lilly.  Lilly is a yellow lab who is apart of the Canine Performance Sciences Program at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn.  We each got to practice asking, "May I please pet your dog?" before petting, and then "shaking hands" with Lilly!

Thank you so much Mrs. Pam for letting us meet Lilly, and for teaching us safety tips!

Our Apple Pie!

To wrap-up our unit on apples, we baked on apple pie on Friday!  Each child got to select the job they wanted to do.
Desiree and Chloe helped cut up the apples.
Griffin and Cadence took turns measuring the ingredients.
Angela and John mixed the apples and ingredients together.
Cam and Addison put the bottom crust in the pie dish.
Eric, Dany, and Aarna spooned the apples into the pie dish.
Tyler and Ella were in charge of putting on the top crust, and chose a flower design for the top.

I tried to get pictures of everyone doing their job, but I missed Drew and Ashton washing the apples, and Davin, Kyara, and Alijah serving everyone the apple pie.  Thank you to everyone who sent in ingredients!  We had such a fun time making and eating the apple pie!
